More Than 500 Show Up for Stimulus-Fund Workshops
More than 500 people are getting information from a state agency today on how to get federal stimulus funds for child-care costs.
Cassandra Curry says this comes at a great time.
"A lot of people are suffering and it's designed to help everyone. That is really important that it is helping everyone," said Curry.
The workshops were scheduled to begin at noon at the Wilson Convention Center on Coliseum Drive, but organizers opened the doors around 11 a.m. because so many people were in line.
"It's taken everything we have to get the home, much less get the utilities turned on," said Rebecca Estes.
Estes says it's been hard on her and her three children, who had to move in with her brother for the time being. She says they are trying to move into their home and the stimulus funds will help them do that.
According to a news release from the Georgia Department of Human Services, funds are available for job support training and employment opportunities for non-custodial parents; subsidized employment, and the Fresh Start (short-term financial crisis assistance) program.
To qualify, the agency says, applicants must have a dependent child under 18 years old.
According to the news release, the workshopd run until 8 p.m. Thursday, with information sessions at noon, 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
